CODY, Wyo. – Chris Rinaldi had two goals and an assist and Alex Odea added two more as the Yellowstone Quake handed the Helena Bighorns their first loss of the season, 10-3 on Saturday night.
Odea and Rinaldi staked Yellowstone to a 2-0 lead before the game was seven minutes old.
After Zach Maxwell scored on the powerplay to bring Helena within 2-1, Phil Jennrich and Jake Doty added markers to boost Yellowstone\’s lead to 4-1 after the first period.
Helena (10-1, 20 points) had given up more than two goals in a game just once in its first 10 games, but Ryan Sutliffe allowed seven goal on just 25 shots before being replaced by Noble Tucker.
Rudy Pino\’s team-high ninth goal of the season pulled Helena within 4-2 early in the second period. But the Quake (7-4, 14 points) scored the next three goals – by Kory Sosnowksi, Nick Kent and Odea – to extend the lead to 7-2.
Helena was whistled for nine penalties and Yellowstone was whistled for 13 penalties.
The Bighorns had a 41-39 shot advantage.
Helena travels to Billings on Friday.
