xHelena uses fast start to beat Bozeman, 9-1

The xHelena Bighorns opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 9-1 over the Bozeman Icedogs.

xHelena was paced by Brandt Miller, who had one goal and one assist. Miller scored 9:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 xHelena. Dylan Webster picked up the assist.

The Bighorns put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bozeman to score on any of its five power plays. xHelena\’s offense rang up 49 shots on the Icedogs\’ net. The Bighorns found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. xHelena averages 6.6 goals per game. The Bighorns\’ penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as xHelena finished with 24 penalty minutes.

xHelena additionally got points from Jacob Wolter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Webster, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Parker Olson, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Logan Henne, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Austin Loes, who also had one goal and one assist. xHelena also got a goal from Matt Mohar as well. In addition, xHelena received assists from Nick Okada, who had two and John Bonta, Damon Hanson, and Ryan Webber, who contributed one a piece.

Bozeman racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. The Icedogs surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Bozeman did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 12 saves.

Alek Lazarski made 12 saves for the Bighorns on 13 shots. xHelena registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Zach Skop rejected 40 shots on goal for the Icedogs. For Bozeman, Ryan Erickson was ejected from the game.
