In a first for the season, the Bighorns trailed the Gillette Wild through all three periods and were unable to make a comeback. Despite being the number one team in the AWHL, the Bighorns struggled to get shots on goal. The Wild also struggled but were able to score halfway into the period. The two teams went into the first intermission with the Wild leading 1-0.

The Wild opened the second period with a second goal just 27 seconds into the period. The Bighorns were finally able to get on the board with a goal by Kyle Martin eleven minutes into the period. Despite a 27-to-11 shots on goal advantage, the Bighorns were unable to score again and the second period ended with Gillette in the lead, 2-1.

At the beginning of the third period, the Bighorns knew they had to start converting their shots on goal if they wished to come back and win the game. Gillette’s Tyler Cavan secured a 4-1 lead with two short-handed goals less than two minutes apart. Thirteen minutes into the period Helena’s Drew Ingram scored the Bighorns’ second goal of the evening. Despite more than forty shots on goal, the Bighorns saw the final minutes of the period count down without another goal. In their first loss of the season, the Bighorns found themselves leaving Wyoming with a 2-4 loss.

The Bighorns will look to bounce back with a win over the Icedogs in Bozeman Saturday, November 5th. The Bighorns will be returning home on November 11 where they will host the Great Falls Americans.
