Trefry named Frontier Division First Star of the Week

Nick Trefry is no stranger to being called an “Offensive Defenseman” and his experience showed it on September 19th’s home game against the Glacier Nationals, where the Helena Bighorns opened up their inaugural season in the NA3HL with a statement win, 10-0.

Trefry’s 5 point performance (1 goal, 4 assists) earned him the division’s top star, and he is also featured in the NA3HL’s Plays of the Week for his coast-to-coast-dangle-to-assist on Matt Blassic’s goal scored in the first period.

“I was seeing my teammates well and came out with a couple more points than usual,” said the humble, Upland, CA native Trefry. “I love the community! Hockey’s good, fans are great, I love the team, and everyone has treated me very well here so far.”

"Nick had a great first game of the year posting five points,” offered head coach Jon Jonasson. “He is an outstanding leader on this team already and we look forward to see what else he has in store the rest of the year with his high skill level.”

“Nick plays very well offensively when we need him to, but above all else, he’s a very responsible defenseman,” says assistant coach Brad Ouldhouse. “He’s not only a strong leader in our locker room and on the ice, but Nick is trusted in every situation because of his low turnovers and high positive play out-put. We are very blessed to have Nick here with us.”

The Bighorns are away this weekend in Cody, WY for a pair of division games against the Yellowstone Quake, and are back home Saturday, October 4th for a rivalry game against the Billing Bulls. Every fan in attendance at that game wins a free snack wing from Buffalo Wild Wings if the Bighorns win against the Bulls.
