Helena’s last two home games of the season proved to be a success for the Bighorns, winning games against the Butte Irish and the Great Falls Americans.
Friday night’s game against Butte ended in a 5-1 victory for Helena, and new goalie Branson Appelman stopped 20 of the 21 shots on net. Goals for Helena were scored by Jason Hammett (Owen Gruener, Branson Appleman), Austin Uecker (Chase Berg, Jason Hammett), Jeffrey Hershberger (Brandon Mcilhany, Kade Pareja), Trey Pareja (Austin Uecker), and Kade Pareja (Austin Uecker).
Saturday night’s game had the Great Falls Americans in town, and Helena celebrating their annual teddy bear toss night. Cam Young scored on a breakaway with less than two minutes left in the first period, and the players collected a total of 17 boxes of bears for Toys For Tots. The game ended in a 3-1 win for the Bighorns, with Kade Pareja (Colin Becker), and Jason Hammett (Owen Gruener, Colin Becker), scoring the other two goals. Appleman was solid again in Helena’s net, stopping 19 of 20 shots.
