Richard Groskops had a big night with 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) as the Helena Bighorns crushed the Missoula Junior Bruins 7-0 in a home game at Glacier Ice Rink in Helena. Also, the Helena Bighorns' offense had a big night, peppering Missoula with 42 shots throughout the game, to go along with Nick Battaglia's shutout. The Helena Bighorns took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Mikhail Gavrilenko and never looked back.
Mikhail Gavrilenko did his part, adding 2 goals and Jeremy Solko chipped in with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
In the first period, Gavrilenko opened the scoring for the Bighorns with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 10:41 with helpers from Goulet and Solko. Groskops put in a goal at 13:25 with assists from teammates Cross and Lindberg.
During the second, Solko deposited a goal at 5:22 with helpers from Kottmeier and Scheibel. Gavrilenko netted a goal at 8:36 with assists from Groskops and Kipper.
In the third period, Cross scored a goal at 0:06 with helpers from his linemates, Lindberg and Cline. Kottmeier put in a goal at 14:28 with assists from Groskops and Niskanen. Groskops netted a goal at 18:02 with helpers from Klco and Cunningham.
Helena’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Battaglia’s shutout, as he stopped all 24 of the shots he faced. Battaglia’s counterpart, Wiest, also had a big night, managing to stop 35 of 42, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Helena Bighorns’ record to (29-13-4-0).
