SCOTT CUNNINGHAM STEPPING DOWN AS HEAD COACH AND DIRECTOR OF HOCKEY OPERATIONS

Apr 1, 2023

From the entire Bighorn organization, we want to thank Scott Cunningham for his tireless work and dedication to the Bighorn organization and our players. Coach Cunningham has a long rich history with the Bighorns and with hockey in Helena and we are all grateful to Scott and his family and truly appreciate his years of hard work. Scott will remain in Helena to pursue another opportunity outside of hockey and he will also remain with the Bighorns in a more limited role. Scott’s knowledge and years of experience are priceless for our coaches and players and will allow him to stay involved with the game and the organization he loves so much. Damon Hanson will remain in place as our Head Coach and entering his 4th season behind the bench, the ownership and our entire organization has full confidence in Damon leading the Bighorns. In Damon’s last two seasons, he has been instrumental in our success and helped lead the team both years to Frontier Division Championships and a spot in the Fraser Cup Championships.
FROM SCOTT:
I want to thank the entire Helena Bighorns organization, and everyone involved, most importantly I want to thank Mike and Jed for giving not only me, but my kids an opportunity to be a part of a top end program. I have been so fortunate to be a part of so many first-class organizations and the Helena Bighorns are at the top of the list. Mike, Jed, and I have been friends for 30 years and the fact that I am stepping away from coaching the Bighorns will not change our relationship moving forward. I also wanted to thank Coach Hanson for all his hard work and dedication to this season, he was a huge part of our team’s success. I know Damon will continue to build this program into the powerhouse it is today.
FROM DAMON:
I want to first start by saying thank you to Scott. Having the opportunity to coach with him has been a great experience and Scott has been a mentor to me for many years and will remain so. I’ve gained a tremendous amount of information and I feel like I’ve learned more in one season than most coaches could learn in five, and for that I can’t thank Scott enough. Over this past season, Scott has pushed me to be a better person and a better coach. Everyone is very excited to know that Scott will be around to help our program so we can remain one of the best programs in the NA3HL. My family and I would like to thank Mike and Jed for giving us this opportunity to remain in Helena and allowing me to coach the Helena Bighorns.
