Petruzzelli Signs with Brooks Bandits in Alberta Tier 2 League

The 18 year old Petruzzelli, who captured league Rookie of the Year and 2nd Team All-Star awards last season will join Brooks with the hopes of furthering his already blossoming junior career in that Alberta city. "Petro," as his teammates call him, finished 3rd in both team and league scoring, pumping 46 goals and adding 55 assists for 101 points. He finished tops amoung rookie scorers in the league and 6th in game winning goals with 6.

The native of Federal Way, WA  also finished in the USA National tournament with 5 points in 5 games and provided the Bighorns some scoring punch en route to the National title. The 5'10" 175 lb. winger has set his sights on college and the elevation to Brooks is something Bighorns Head Coach, Scott Cunningham saw coming. "A player like Anthony should do well at the next level. He is a crafty player who always figures out a way to get things done. We wish him success."

Petruzzelli is on of the many Bighorns who have graduated on to the higher levels of hockey and his departure will open some good oportunities for some younger players from last year's team to step into a more featured role this season. Something that has Bighorns President, Mike Butters conservatively optimistic. "We have quite a few players moving on again this year, but that is the norm in Helena, Butters said. "Whenever you have team success, players move on. That is the nature of of hockey in Helena. We have 6-7 guys moving on to Tier 2 programs and another 9 off to college, which means we will need some of our returning players to step up this year."

The Bighorns open training camp on August 24th at the Helena Ice Arena. Season tickets are now on sale for the 2011-12 season. Anyone ordering their season tickets before September 2nd will receive a Bighorns seat cushion. Call (406) 457-2817 or log on to for more information.
