Helena’s Vanthournout deadly on offense in 3-1 win against Yellowstone

Cody Vanthournout was all over the ice for Helena, as he tallied two goals in Helena\’s 3-1 win over Yellowstone.

Vanthournout scored on the power play at 5:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 8:21 into the second to make the score 2-1 Helena.

Helena was led by goalie Grant Martens, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. Martens managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.62 prior to the game.

Helena\’s penalty kill excelled, as Helena gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

Helena stifled Yellowstone\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Helena forced Yellowstone goalie Lance Knudson to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Helena also got a goal from Gavin Lubin as well. More assists for Helena came via Johnny Bonta, Ryan Daugherty, Matt Blassic, Riley Keays, and John Greer, who contributed one each.

Yellowstone\’s offense rang up 38 shots on Helena\’s net.

Yellowstone was led by Nick Ligocki, who scored the team\’s only goal. Ligocki scored 11:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Yellowstone. Manuel Manero provided the assist.

Helena incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Yellowstone\’s Knudson stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Yellowstone incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
