It was another weekend of wins for the Helena Bighorns, bringing their win streak to a 14-game total after Saturday night. That also puts them only 3 points from 1st place in the Frontier Division.
Friday night’s game stayed close in score, creating a lot of tension between the Bighorns and the Yellowstone Quake, leading to a lot fights and game ejections for both. The third period had Helena only leading 1-0, but Yellowstone tied that up just after 7 minutes into the period. Helena got a lucky break, scoring with just a couple of minutes left in the game, which ended in a 2-1 win for the Bighorns. Goals for Helena were scored by Owen Ramsay (Andrew Deskin, Harlan Wojtusik), and Lyndon Orr (Dylan Cunningham, Darby McCarthy).
Saturday’s night’s game was a sellout crowd, with many Bighorns fans eagerly anticipating a fun night of revenge between the two teams from the night before. Helena wasted no time showing Yellowstone who the top team was, scoring a total of 10 goals, and not letting Yellowstone get a single point on the board. Helena’s goals were scored by Thomas Hollon (Cade Holland), Derek Rassell (Ty Moore, Andrew Deskin), Braden Cunningham (Tyler Bloom, Camden Cunningham), Andrew Deskin (Ty Moore, Dylan Cunningham), Tyler Bloom (Braden Cunningham), Lyndon Orr (Tyler Alldredge, Luc Corbin), Owen Ramsay (Darby McCarthy), Derek Rassell (Andrew Deskin, Ty Moore), Andrew Deskin (Ty Moore, Lyndon Orr), and again by Derek Rassell giving him the only hat trick of the night (Thomas Hollon, Andrew Deskin). Helena Cycle Center, Saturday night’s game sponsor, donated $1,100; $100 for every Bighorns goal, and $100 per hat trick, to the Bob Greene Memorial Fund. It was also Helena’s annual jersey auction night, where players wore replica Ice Pirates jerseys, raising $7,500, with proceeds of the auction going to the Helena Figure Skating Club.
