Alek Lazarski stood on his head and made 44 saves to lead the Helena Bighorns to a 6-1 victory over the Yellowstone Quake.
Corbin Belling had two goals and one assist to lead Helena. Belling scored the first of his two goals at 18 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Helena. Logan Henne picked up the assist. Belling's next tally made the score 4-1 Helena with 14:52 left in the third period. The Bighorns had gained a power play chance when Cosimo Yapello was whistled for hooking. Henne provided the assist.
Helena pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.
The Bighorns put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Yellowstone to score on any of its eight power plays. Helena's offense rang up 42 shots on the Quake's net.
Helena additionally got points from Austin Loes, who also registered one goal and one assist. Helena also had goals scored by Theo Campe, Damon Hanson, and Dylan Webster, who scored one goal each. In addition, Helena received assists from Jacob Wolter, Brandt Miller, and Austin Buckholtz, who each chipped in one.
Yellowstone's offense rang up 45 shots on the Bighorns' net.
The Quake were led by Mitchell Fehd, who scored the team's only goal. Fehd scored short handed 4:53 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Yellowstone found itself down a man on Trent Carter's roughing. Josh Neumann picked up the assist.
Helena registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Quake's Sean Leahy stopped 36 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Yellowstone incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
