Bighorns Push for Decisive Game 5

HELENA, MT. – The Helena Bighorns defeated the Yellowstone Quake by a score of 4-2 in game four of the America West Division Series. The win ties the series at two games a piece and forces a decisive Game 5 for Sunday Evening.

The Bighorns started the scoring midway through the first period when Gehrett Sargis powered the puck past Yellowstone goalie Alex Larson while on the powerplay. It would stand as the only goal of the period as the Bighorns outshot the Quake 21-1 in the opening frame.

The second period saw a bit more offense from both teams as Yellowstone captain Tyler Boyce tied the game at one a piece early in the stanza. Then less than four minutes later Adam Johnson gave the Bighorns back the lead with a deflection of a Zach Maxwell point shot. Yellowstone would get the last goal of the period in the waning seconds as Chris Rinaldi broke away from the Bighorns defenders and tied the game at two.

Helena went back to dominating Yellowstone in the third period. For a majority of the period the Bighorns worked the puck around the Quake\’s offensive zone until Sargis buried his second of the night to give the Bighorns the lead. Rudi Pino would add an insurance marker with under two minutes to go in the game.

The atmosphere was electric at Helena Ice Arena with the 900 plus fans all standing and screaming for the entire final five minutes of the game. The Bighorns are looking for even more fan support when they face off at 5:00 PM today (Sunday, March 7th) for the final game of the American West Division Final.

The winner of today\’s game will not only play in the NorPac\’s Cascade Cup Finals, but they will also qualify for a spot to play in the 2010 Jr A Tier III  Nationals.
