The Bighorns travelled to Missoula on Friday night to take on the Maulers in their final home game of 2012. Bighorns captain Ben Henne scored the first goal of the evening on the power play just four minutes into the game. Teammate Kyle Baker widened the Bighorns lead to 2-0 four minutes later on another power play. Missoula finally scored their first goal of the evening with just one second remaining in the first period on the power play.

The second period started out slow as both teams sought to make shots on goal. Helena’s fist goal of the period came seven and a half minutes in with a full-strength goal from Christian Axelsson. Helena’s lead was extended to 4-1 when Damon Hanson made a short-handed goal four minutes later. Neither team was able to connect with the net again and the Maulers went into the second intermission training the Bighorns by three.

The third period was more than three-quarters over before a goal was scored. Missoula made a full-strength goal at 15:01. Despite the Maulers going on a concentrated offensive attach, it wasn’t enough to over the Bighorns defense. In as last ditch attempt, Missoula pulled their goalie in the last seconds of the game. Unfortunately for the Maulers, Bighorns forward Theo Campe took advantage of the opportunity to score an empty net goal, giving the Bighorns a 5-2 win over the Maulers.
