The Helena Bighorns are making last minute preparations for their Main Tryout Camp which begins this Thursday, August 26th. The Camp will take place on the Bighorns home ice, at Helena Ice Arena. Players from all over the United States and Canada will be in the Capital city vying for a spot on the Bighorns 2010-11 roster. Over a four day period, Bighorns coaching and scouting staff will be on hand to evaluate players in order to select the pre-season training camp roster.
Following camp, approximately 30 players will remain in Helena to play out the preseason schedule. Their first preseason test will come against the defending Pacific Division Champion Seattle Totems on September 10th and 11th. Based on performance, Head Coach, Scott Cunningham and the rest of the staff must then finalize their 25 man roster prior to the start of the regular season.
Bighorns newly hired Assistant Coach, Tysen Azevedo, is eager for tryouts to begin. “It’s very exciting for me and for the team. We are going for our fourth straight league championship; to be here to help select the players who will play for that right is a great feeling,” said Azevedo.
Competition for a roster spot will be especially fierce this season as the Bighorns have gained National notoriety coming off their third straight NORPAC championship and Nationals appearance. Players from all over the country have put the Bighorns tryouts at the top of their list for this coming season.
Tryouts will conclude with the traditional “Blue and White Game” which will serve as a game situation showcase of the top players in camp. The game will be open to the public at no charge and is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 29th. Don't miss your chance to get an early look at the Bighorns top prospects.
