Missoula’s Brett Mathews scored just 22 seconds into the game and the Maulers never looked back. Missoula scored two more goals in the first period and the only goal of the second period to give the Maulers a 4-0 lead. The third period went nearly scoreless until Helena’s Brandon Rumble took advantage of a penalty to score a power play goal with less than 75 seconds left to play. The bighorns were able to close the gap to just two points with another goal by Beau Ricketts with just 24 seconds left in the game. Despite the third period comeback, the Bighorns where unable to overcome the deficiency and fell to the Maulers 4-2.
