The two teams were evenly matched throughout Friday evening. The first goal of the game didn’t come until the second period when Bighorns’ forward Christian Axelsson finally connected with the net. Gillette quickly evened the score three minutes later to take the teams to a tie going into the second intermission.

Helena re-took the lead just 29 seconds into the third period with a goal from team captain Ben Henne. Alternate captain Theo Campe widened the lead to two with another Bighorns goal just a minute later. However, the Bighorns defense wasn’t able to hold off Gillette’s offensive drive on another Wild power play, closing the Bighorns lead to just one point. The Wild came up with yet another big goal with just five minutes left in the game to tie the score up one again. Neither team was able to find the net and the game went into overtime. The two teams continued to match one another until yet again, a Bighorn penalty game the wild the opportunity to score on the power play and with the game 4-3 in double overtime.

The Bighorns returned to the Campbell County Ice Arena Saturday night looking to redeem their lose from the previous night.
