It was down to the wire this weekend of who was going to end the regular season in first place, and the Bighorns did it. Again.
It was a hard-fought battle between the Bighorns and the Cobras, and Friday night’s game ended with an OT shootout win for Butte and a 5-4 final score on their home ice. Luckily Helena still gained a point in Friday’s game, keeping them as a contender for a fighting spot for first place against the Gillette Wild. Goals for Helena were scored by Camden Cunningham (Andrew Deskin, Braden Cunningham), Lyndon Orr (Luc Corbin, TJ Norris), Tyler Alldredge (Luc Corbin, Owen Ramsay), and Derek Rassell (Ty Moore). Goalies Keaton French and Jesse Schindel shared the net, saving a total of 56 out of the 60 shots against them, not including the shootout goals.
Saturday’s game was a sold-out house at the Helena Ice Arena, with an over eager crowd ready to cheer their team on to victory. It was successful, and Helena came out with a 5-1 win over the Cobras. Goals for Helena were scored by Tyler Alldredge (Harlan Wojtusik, Zach Turner), Joe Feamster (Camden Cunningham, Braden Cunningham), a second by Joe Feamster (Camden Cunningham), a third by Joe Feamster, giving him a hat trick (Tyler Bloom, Harlan Wojtusik), and Darby McCarthy (Ty Moore, TJ Morris). Keaton French stood in net for Helena, saving 21 out of the 22 shots on him.
Helena heads into playoffs in first place of the regular season division and will face Butte again in round one. Game one will be in Butte; Friday March 10th, at 7:30pm, you can catch it live at Buffalo Wild Wings-Helena. Game two will be held at the Helena Ice Arena; doors open at 6:00pm, the puck drops at 7:05pm. Sunday, March 12th (if a 3rd game is necessary) will be in Helena, doors will open at 4:00pm, the puck drops at 5:05pm. Tickets for Sunday will not go on sale until after the result of Saturday night’s game.
