The Bighorns continue their win streak after winning both games this weekend against the Butte Irish.
Friday’s game was a cold one in Butte, Montana, with freezing temperatures both outside and inside the Butte Community Iceplex. The game was a close one and for as many chances that Helena had, they just couldn’t get the puck in the net like they are used to. They battled through and hard work finally paid off, when Jakob Losch was awarded with the first and only goal of the game and sent the Bighorns back to Helena with a win. Assisting the goal was Tim Mattingly and Joe Feamster, and goalie Alex Lamont celebrated a shutout, saving all 19 shots on him in net.
Saturday’s game was a surprisingly packed house at Steed Arena, and with temperatures at 30 below (not including windchill), 1200 fans braved the cold to fill the stands and cheer on the Bighorns. It paid off, and Helena crushed the Irish with an overwhelming 12-2 victory. Braden Cunningham was also celebrated with the 100th home goal of the season. Saturday night’s goals for the Bighorns were credited to Cai Robinson (Dylan Cunnigham, Finn Theriault), Ty Moore (Trey Pajera, Jack Lambert), Finn Theriault (Mason Eggen), Finn Theriault (Joe Feamster, Cai Robinson), Cam Young (Tim Mattingly, Jakob Losch), Jack Lambert (Joe Feamster, Tim Mattingly), Jakob Losch (Trey Pajera, Kelton Chadwick), Braden Cunningham (Dylan Cunnigham, Gavin Barr), Cai Robsinson (Jack Lambert), Cam Young (Jack Lambert, Dylan Cunningham), Braden Cunningham (Camden Cunningham), and Joe Feamster (Mason Eggen). Goalie Malik Johnson stopped 14 of the 16 shots against him on net.
Helena will now prepare for two big games coming up next weekend, when the Gillette Wild come to town. Gillette is currently one point ahead of Helena, but the Bighorns look to change that and take over the number one seed of the Frontier Division.
