The highly anticipated first game of the AWHL Championship series kicked off Friday night in Missoula as the Maulers hosted the Bighorns for Game One. The first goal of the evening came more than thirteen minutes into the first period when Hagen Nemzek scored on an assist from Beau Ricketts. Missoula answered with a goal of their own just forty seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. In the last ten seconds of the period, Nemzek connected with the goal once more to close the period with the Bighorns leading 2-1.
The Bighorns came out in the second period and continued their scoring streak with a goal from Captain Trevor Tracy just thirty-two seconds in. Teammate Ben Henne scored the final goal of the evening fourteen minutes later to make the score 4-1 on a power play opportunity. Neither team scored during the third period and the Bighorns took the win to make the series 1-0.
