Ryan Doner scored four goals, while Zack Maxwell added two goals and two assists as the Helena Bighorns remained undefeated with a 14-0 victory over the Butte Roughriders in a NorPac game at the Helena Ice Arena on Thursday night.
The game was a makeup for a contest that was postponed last Saturday because of poor ice conditions at the Butte Community Ice Center.
The victory was Helena’s third this season by a margin of at least 10 goals and improves the team’s record to 10-0, eclipsing the 9-0 start the team had last season.
Helena has now beaten Butte (0-9) by a combined 27-0 in two meetings this season.
Doner posted his third hat trick of the season, scoring two goals in the first period and two more in the third. He scored at even strength, on a powerplay and shorthanded. He now leads the team with 17 goals and is tied for the lead with 22 points.
Maxwell got his second and third goals of the season, scoring twice in the third period.
Ryan Parkhouse and Tom Lee each scored twice as seven Bighorns scored, and 14 players recorded at least one point.
Helena held a 72-14 advantage in shots.
Tempers flared in the second period as Helena’s Taylor Laneville, Patrick Love, Juan Tellez and Mark Palacios were each assessed fighting majors.
Kameron Maxwell, Zach’s younger brother, made 14 saves to earn his second shutout of the season, both coming against the Roughriders.
The Bighorns should expect a tougher test tonight when the second-place Missoula Maulers visit for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
