A hat trick by Corbin Belling was the highlight in Bighorns\’ 10-3 win against the Yellowstone Quake.
Belling\’s first goal came 17:27 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:01 into the first and at 18:37 into the first.
The Helena Bighorns led 6-2 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.
Yellowstone\’s six penalties came back to haunt it, as the Quake let up five goals while on the penalty kill.
Helena stifled Yellowstone\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bighorns kept the Quake\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Case Hansen made 33 saves on 43 shots. Helena outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Bighorns average 6.4 goals per contest.
Helena also got points from Nick Okada, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Logan Henne, who also racked up two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Austin Loes, who also had one goal and two assists. Helena also got a goal from John Bonta as well. More assists for Helena came via John Petersson, who had two, Theo Campe, who had three, and Ryan Webber, Sebastian Hansson, and Connor Dunn, who contributed one a piece.
Yellowstone was helped by Cosimo Yapello, who registered one goal. Yapello scored 14:44 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Ross Mullen picked up the assist. Yellowstone additionally got points from Sawyer Scanlan, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Doug Keller, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were Jaden Sveinson and Mike McCullen, who each chipped in one.
Helena\’s Austin Brihn stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Bighorns incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Quake incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
