In what was the first of a three game series against the Great Falls Americans, the Bighorns proved once again to be an offensive powerhouse. The two teams went back and forth for most of the first period as tension built. Fans finally had something to cheer about when almost eighteen minutes into the period Devin Smith scored a power play goal. Damon Hanson widened the lead to 2-0 when he scored just forty seconds later.

A problem with the ice resulted in the second period starting just sixty seconds after the end of the first but fans didn’t have to wait long for another Bighorns goal. Just a minute and fifty seconds in, Wyatt Winfield scored his first goal in more than six games. Bighorns penalties gave the Americans a chance to close the gap, scoring three goals in the space of less than three minutes. The Americans second goal came while the Bighorns were 3-on-5. Helena finally regained the lead ten minutes later with a goal from Danny Fazio and the team went into the second intermission leading 4-3.

Levi Blom scored a power play goal a little over six-and-a-half minutes into the third period, less than ten seconds later, Michael Sullivan scored and the Bighorns took a 6-3 lead. Not to be outdone by his brother, Cody Blom scored the final goal of the evening twelve-and-a-half minutes into the game to make the final score, 7-3.

The Bighorns will be back on home ice next Friday, January 27 where they will host the Great Falls Americans once again. The 27th will also be Sylvan Learning Night.
