BOZEMAN — Ryan Parkhouse scored twice and Nic Wackerly made 15 saves for his second consecutive shutout as the Helena Bighorns improved to 13-0 with a 4-0 victory over the Bozeman IceDogs in a NorPac game at Haynes Pavilion on Friday night.
Wackerly improved to 5-0 on the season.
“Definitely, it was one of our better-played defensive games of the season,” Helena coach Scott Cunningham said.
Cunningham had been less than pleased with the team’s defensive play in a 5-2 win over Missoula a week ago. The team has since responded with consecutive shutouts.
“We watched some video and the guys really picked it up a bit,” Cunningham said.
Blair Murphy got the Bighorns on the board with a power-play goal with 4:57 left in the first period.
Ryan Parkhouse scored twice, including a short-handed goal that made it 2-0 just a minute into the second period. Taylor Laneville created a turnover in the neutral zone and fed Parkhouse with a stretch pass. Parkhouse beat Bozeman goalie Taylor D’Agostino for his 12th goal of the season.
Leading 2-0, the Bighorns broke the IceDogs’ back late in the second. Patrick Love and Parkhouse scored 36 seconds apart to build the cushion to 4-0.
The defense did the rest, limiting Bozeman to just three shots in the final 20 minutes. Helena held a 41-15 shot advantage.
The Helena Bighorns return home Saturday night to take on the Butte Roughriders.
