The Helena Bighorns have added yet another new face to the roster. Measuring in at just 5’4, the 145 pound center will be the shortest player on the team, but that doesn’t mean he can’t score. Before joining the Springfield Jr. Blues this season, Santopoalo played for the Rockford Icemen all throughout his high school years. And the 18-year-old knows a thing or two about winning. The Icemen have won the Illinois State Championship every year since 1996, and Santopoalo was on the team the past four years. Last year, after just playing 20 games, Santopoalo had 41 goals and 38 assists, an average of almost four points a game. In March of this year, he was honored by the NHL Chicago Blackhawks as one of the top 6 high school hockey players in the state of Illinois. Although Santopoalo didn’t have much playing time with the Blues, head coach Scott Cunningham is looking forward to adding another big impact goal scorer to the Bighorns bench.
Catch Tim Santopoalo and all of your Bighorns this weekend as they mount a two game homestand. The Bighorns will be hosting the Gillette Wild on Friday (who gave the Bighorns their first loss of the season) and the Missoula Maulers on Saturday (currently challenging the Bighorns for first place in the AWHL standing). Don’t miss any of the exciting hockey action. Tickets can be purchased online at HelenaBighorns.com or by calling (406) 457-2817.
