THE BIGHORNS TREATED THEIR PARENTS TO AN EXCITING 3-2 WIN OVER THE GILLETTE WILD

After defeating the Gillette Wild last weekend in a 4-2 and a 6-2 game, the Bighorns looked to make it 3-and-0 by winning tonight. For the first time in the series, the Wild scored first after nearly thirteen minutes of scoreless play. Helena answered with a power play goal from Devin Smith with just two seconds left in the period. Bighorns fans celebrated as Devin scored his first goal as a Bighorn.

Helena came out of the first intermission on fire, with Cody Blom scoring his second goal as a Bighorn just a little over three minutes into the second period. The Bighorns didn’t hold onto the lead for very long. Just six minutes later, Gillette’s Adam Petch scored for the Wild to make the score 2-2. But the Bighorns weren’t finished for the evening. Yet another new player for the Bighorns, Danny Fazio scored what was to be the game winning goal.

Despite attempts from both teams and some close calls at both ends of the ice, both teams’ goalies did an amazing job stopping shots in the third period. Neither goalie allowed a single goal in the last twenty minutes of the game. Gillette’s Nick Vittori stopped an impressive 69 shots over the course of the night.

The Bighorns will be hosting the Great Falls Americans tomorrow night. IT will also be Guys’ Night at the Helena Ice Arena.
