MAIN CAMP GIVES BIGHORNS BRASS A LOOK AT THE FUTURE

After a light workout on Thursday and brisk practice on friday morning, the defending national champions got a glimpse of what may be the core of this years squad as their first scrimmage was held Friday evening.

In what could easily be labeled a tune up, several of the Bighorns returners led the way in a contest that featured 10 goals. The game ended in a 5-5 tie.

Returner, Brian Fiol led the White Squad with 2 goals and 1 assist. Other white team goals were scored by Ryan Parkhouse, Raymond Stone and Kevin Kasulat, all Bighorn veterans.

Picking up where he finished in last season’s national championship game, Michael Sullivan equaled his total in Rochester, as he fired 2 goals for the Gold Squad. Other goals came from newcomers Alex DeWitz and Kai Wilkins. DeWitz was a member of the Rochester Ice Hawks, who were humbled 5-1 in game 1 of last year’s national tournament by the ‘Horns.

Bighorns Head Coach, Scott Cunningham was somewhat pleased with the games outcome. “This time of year, we aren’t expecting guys to be familiar with each, we are just looking for the guys who bring the effort.” Cunningham added, “While there were a few bright spots out there, we have a long way to go.”

Training Camp is free to the public and continues with 2 team practices Saturday morning and the 11th annual Blue/White Classic which goes at 7:30 PM. The team will conduct a team practice on Sunday afternoon and it is expected the the team will trim its training camp roster, which currently stands at 39.
