Behind a great game by Corbin Belling, who had two goals and one assist, the Helena Bighorns defeated the Yellowstone Quake, 6-1.
Belling found the back of the net 18 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Helena and again while on the power play 5:08 into the third to make the score 4-1 Helena.
Helena was led by goalie Alek Lazarski, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Lazarski will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.76.
The Bighorns pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.
Helena forced Yellowstone\’s goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 57 shots and forcing 51 saves. Sean Leahy made 46 stops and Case Hansen made five. The Bighorns excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.
Helena additionally got points from Austin Loes, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Helena also had goals scored by Theo Campe, Damon Hanson, and Dylan Webster, who scored one goal each. More assists for Helena came via Logan Henne, who had two and Nick Okada, Brandt Miller, and Austin Buckholtz, who each chipped in one.
The Quake were led by Mitchell Fehd, who scored the team\’s only goal. Fehd scored short handed 4:53 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Yellowstone found itself down a man on Trent Carter\’s roughing. Josh Neumann picked up the assist.
Helena registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Quake incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
