Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Helena defeated Billings in a shootout 3-2 (3-1 SO).
Helena\’s penalty kill excelled, as Helena gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.
Billings was unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and Helena eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.
Helena was led by Forbes, who racked up one goal and one assist. Forbes scored 7:00 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Helena. Gavin Lubin assisted on the tally. Wyatt Stotts also scored for Helena. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Brandon Mills and Riley Keays, who contributed one each.
Billings kept Helena\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Ranck made 37 saves on 39 shots. Billings\’ penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Billings finished with 24 penalty minutes.
Billings was helped by Tristan Henrichs, who finished with one goal. Henrichs scored 4:18 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Billings. Chris Nicolai picked up the assist. Billings also got a goal from Dillon Steh as well. In addition, Billings received assists from Mason Graves, who had one.
Helena incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Brandon Brown rejected 46 shots on goal for Billings.
