Helena beats Gillette 5-3 as Daugherty gets hat trick

Ryan Daugherty netted a hat trick to lead Helena over Gillette, 5-3.

Daugherty got on the scoresheet 17:01 into the second period. He then added goals at 13:05 into the third and at 13:56 into the third.

Helena put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gillette to score on any of its four power plays. Gillette was unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and Helena eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Helena also got points from John Greer, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Johnny Bonta also scored for Helena. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Riley Keays, who had two and Jay Forbes, Brandon Mills, and Blake Babineau, who contributed one each.

Gillette was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Gillette surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Gillette forced Helena goalie Adam Ranck to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Gillette was led by Adam Maxfield, who had one goal and two assists. Maxfield scored 17:12 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Cade Boreing provided the assist. Others who scored for Gillette included Kyle Traux and Alex King, who each put in one. In addition, Gillette received assists from Colt Johnson and Brett Kramer, who each chipped in one.

Adam Ranck made 37 saves for Helena on 40 shots. Helena totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Alex Feese rejected 32 shots on goal for Gillette.
