Gillette outlasts Helena, 5-3

Gillette and Helena were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Gillette made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Cade Boreing at 10:23 of the second period.

Gillette\’s offense rang up 36 shots on Helena\’s net.

Gillette was led by Alex King, who had two goals. King scored the first of his two goals at 18:52 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Helena. Mitchell McEwan assisted on the tally. King\’s next tally made the score 5-3 Gillette with 8:31 left in the third period. Kyle Traux picked up the assist. Gillette also got points from Boreing, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Gillette included Tyler Tennant and Michael Doyle, who scored one goal each. More assists for Gillette came via Colt Johnson and Brett Kramer, who contributed one each.

Helena stifled Gillette\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Gillette was unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and Helena eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The defensemen of Helena were also effective in Gillette\’s zone, and came away with two goals.

Helena was led by Gavin Lubin, who finished with two goals. Lubin scored the first of his two goals at 5:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Helena. Blake Babineau assisted on the tally. Lubin\’s next tally made the score 4-3 Gillette with 10:49 left in the third period. Helena also got a goal from Riley Keays as well. In addition, Helena received assists from Jack Dolan and Markus Bergsten, who each chipped in one.
