Bozeman penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Helena

Helena failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Bozeman shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Bozeman was paced by Kegan Couture, who racked up one goal. Couture scored short handed 1:04 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Bozeman. Nicholas Thompson picked up the assist.

Bozeman was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and three majors for 61 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Bozeman had been spending in the box.

Bozeman also got points from Austin Charnholm, who also registered one goal and one assist. Bozeman also had goals scored by Bryce Meckes, Dalton Rickard, and Gunnar Mogck, who each put in one. More assists for Bozeman came via Brock Loser, AJ ODell, Dylan Michaud, Zach Frasier, and Branden Endres, who each chipped in one.

Helena forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and four majors for 78 minutes in penalty time. Helena surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

Helena was helped by Johnny Bonta, who had one goal. Bonta scored 7:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Daugherty assisted on the tally. Riley Keays also scored for Helena.

Helena\’s starting goalie, Adam Ranck, made four saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Grant Martens, who stopped 19 shots.
