BIGHORNS WIN IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

The final Bighorns home game of 2012 was an exciting one. The evening pitted the two best teams of the AWHL against one another in a closely matched game. Helena got on the board first with a goal from Corbin Belling sixteen minutes in. Neither team was able to score again and the Quake trailed the Bighorns 0-1 going into the first intermission.

Bighorns captain Ben Henne widened the Bighorns’ lead to 2-0 almost five minutes into the second period. The Quake made the game exciting with a goal of their own with just one second left in the period to make it 2-1 on the power play.

The third period was scoreless until the Quake tied up the game with a goal more than seventeen minutes in. Neither team was able to score again and the game went into overtime. The two teams played four-on-four for five minutes but the game still remained tied so it went into double overtime. Two minutes into double overtime playing three-on-three, Ben Henne scored the game winning goal to give the Bighorns a 20 game winning streak.

The Bighorns are on the road Saturday night in Yellowstone and then play a New Year’s Eve game in Billings on Monday night. The Bighorns return to home ice and play their first game of 2013 on Thursday, January 3 against the great Falls Americans.
