BIGHORNS GOZ WINS BRONZE AT IIHF U-20 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Helena Bighorns defenseman, Balasz Goz, capped off an early Holiday break in helping his Hungarian National U-20 Hockey team earn a bronze medal at the 2011 IIHF World DII-A Championships last week announced Bighorns President, Mike Butters announced earlier today.

Goz picked up a goal and an assist in the tournament held in Donetsk, Ukraine from December 12-18.

With his national teams 2-1-2 record, Hungary staved off relegation to the DIII international pool, while earning their country a bronze medal in the process.

In the Bronze medal game, Goz scored his team’s second goal en route to a 7-1 victory over Spain.

Goz, 19, hails from Miskolc, Hungary and joined the Bighorns this August. In 10 games with the Bighorns this season, Goz has 3 goals and 8 assists to go along with 10 penalty minutes and has accrued a +15 rating. 4 of his 8 assists have come on the power play.

The IIHF World U-20 DII-A Championships feature teams from Lithuania, Ukraine, Spain, Netherlands, Korea, Spain and Hungary. Hungary is playing with hopes of qualifying for a bid for the Division 1 competition and also to avoid relegation to Div. III play next year.

Goz will return to the Bighorns lineup vs. Missoula on December 30th.
