The Helena Bighorns won Sylvan Learning Night in a big way. Helena’s Dalton Bowles opened the scoring for the evening with a goal a little over two minutes into the game. Two more goals followed in quick succession, with Helena’s Damon Hanson scoring a little more than four minutes into the game and Mike Sullivan scoring the Bighorns’ third goal just seventy seconds later. Great Falls finished the period on a positive note, scored their first goal of the evening with just forty seconds left in the period to make the score 3-1 going into the first intermission.
The second period opened with Helena’s Theo Campe scoring a shorthanded goal almost five minutes in. Six minutes later, he scored his second goal of the evening to give the Bighorns a 5-1 lead. Less than a minute later, Beau Ricketts scored his first goal of the evening. Alex DeWitz scored a power play goal ninety seconds later and then Danny Fazio, Damon Hanson and Dalton Bowles each scored a goal one after another to finish out the period, Great Falls trailing 1-10.
Beau Ricketts scored his second goal of the evening a little more than two minutes into the third period. Helena’s William Kapp scored the Bighorns’ final goal of the evening on the power play. Great Falls was finally able to score fourteen minutes into the period but it wasn’t enough and Helena won, 12-2.
The Helena Bighorns will be back at home next Thursday and Friday. The Bighorns will be hosting the Bozeman Icedogs for Carroll College Night on Thursday, February 2. Fans who wear Carroll College gear will receive a free game program. The Bighorns are to host the Gillette Wild for National Guard Night on Friday, February 3, the Bighorns invite all past, present and future Guard members to attend.
