Bighorns Capture Division Title

Already a lock to defend their Cascade Cup championship during this year’s NORPAC playoffs, the Helena Bighorns haven’t let their foot off the gas, nailing down the America West Division regular-season title while staring down the barrel towards their third straight league crown.

“Our guys know how important it is to keep going this time of year,” said Bighorns head coach Scott Cunningham . “They know that what they do now is going to have a direct impact on what happens in the post-season. That\’s why they show up everyday wanting to improve and wanting to win.”

They proved that last weekend with a three-game weekend sweep with a win over the Missoula Maulers sandwiched between two wins over the Butte Roughriders. Even with the six points gained during the weekend the Bighorns did get some help from other games during weekend to clinch the title.

While the Bighorns are no strangers to the playoffs, having played in the NORPAC post season in every season since joining the league, this is only the third time in the team\’s history that they have secured a division title (the other two coming in \’06 and \’08). Despite not always finishing the regular season on top Helena has won the Cascade Cup four times in the last 5 years, including winning it the last two years.

\”Every year we prepare for the playoffs right out of the gates,\” stated Bighorns captain Zack Maxwell. \”This is my third season here and I feel that we are sucessful because of how we prepare and get better everyday. We are always focused on the end of the year and on making sure that we are ready for the playoffs.\”

Now that the Bighorns have secured the America West Division Title they can continue to prepare and make sure that they are ready for whoever comes there way in this years playoffs.

The Bighorns have eight regular season games remaining. Their remaining home games are this Friday and next Friday (12th) against Bozeman, on the 13th against Billings and then they will close out the regular season on the 20th at home against Butte.

Look for the Bighorns in their special edition \”Sweetheart Jerseys\” on the 12th and 13th.
