The Helena Bighorns announced today that they have signed defenseman Blair Murphy to an official NORPAC tender.
At 6' 5" and 230 lbs. Murphy will add some serious size to the Bighorns defense. A native of Victoria B.C., Canada, Blair appeared in 44 games last season with the Victoria Cougars of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. He registered 1 goal, 5 assists and 67 minutes in penalties for the Cougars.
The Bighorns coaching staff first spotted Murphy in Las Vegas, NV at a player showcase event this summer. His size was originally what drew the attention of Bighorns scouts but his defensive ability quickly took center stage.
Murphy who considers himself a "defensive defenseman" was happy to commit to the Bighorns. "Tendering with the Bighorns offers me the best opportunity to move on to play college hockey" Said Muphy. "I am excited about playing away from home this season and especially about coming to a team with a winning tradition" he added.
