The Idaho Junior Steelheads proved to be a serious thorn in the side of the NORPAC Champion Helena Bighorns Saturday night. Fast skating, quick puck movement, and big hitting were the common themes in this evenly matched contest. Idaho put the first marker on the board midway through the second period. There was a silence in the crowd as the Steelheads scored in a game that looked like it could go their way. The Bighorns didn't take long to answer back though with a Powerplay goal by Taylor Laneville. The back and forth action continued into the third period when the Bighorns Ryan Doner scored an unassisted goal to put the Horns up 2-1. Idaho mounted some serious offensive threats in an attempt to tie things back up. The door was slammed shut though by Bighorns rookie goalie Pat Wenzell who recorded 28 saves in his first start as a Bighorn on his way to a 2-1 victory. The Bighorns now lead the tournament standings with a 2-0 record.
In other tournament action, the Boulder Bison defeated the Puget Sound Tomahawks 11-1 in the afternoon game.
