The Helena Ice Arena hosted more than one hundred hockey fans as Saturday night's Blue-White scrimmage had it all- goals, saves, and some old-fashioned duke-it-out hockey.
The White team took an early lead as Texas native Ray Stone deflected the puck in the back of the net after a high rebound just 3 minutes into the game. Soon thereafter, Helena's own Michael Sullivan scored on a nifty pass from Marcus Triezenberg to tie it up at 1-1 and to close the first period.
The second period saw more action as the players picked up pace, hard body checks were the norm, and Billy Bighorn entertained the crowd doing the cha-cha. The period closed in a rough-and-tumble 2-2 tie. And the third period picked up where the second left off. While lined at the face-off circle and waiting for the puck-drop, two players dropped gloves in a fight at center-ice. Both fans and players could sense the build up as the game increased intensity. The Blue Team scored twice more and the White just once before the final minute of play. In a last-chance effort the the White Team pulled its goalie and the Blue Team scored an empty-netter in the wanning seconds of play, pushing the final tally to 5-3.
With a full-squad Sunday morning practice and individual player meetings to follow, the 2011 Training Camp winds down as the team will begin preparing to defend its championship reign as the 2nd Annual DJ's Automotive Cup begins Thursday, September 15th running through Sunday, September 18th.
